Explore the history of grizzlies and black bears in Glacier
Instructor: Chuck Jonkel, Ph.D.
Experience the lives of grizzlies and black bears by visiting their homelands and learning about their food. Meet at the trailhead and we’ll take an easy three mile round trip hike in search of bear tracks, scats, scratch marks on trees and other clues they leave behind. Chuck will share stories from over forty years of watching and studying bears.
Empasizing field-based learning experiences, the Institute provides an objective and science based understanding of the area's ecology and its interaction with people. Through this non-advocacy approach to outdoor education, participants can be better prepared to make informed and constructive decisions which impact this and other ecosystems.
